WIP 2, or 3 or?

Okay, I did it again. While at the Art Club this afternoon I was painting away and listening (okay contributing) to the conversational thread going around the room, and neglected to take photos of what I was doing during the WIP phases of this painting. Here is what I arrived at home with...a painting deserving of marinating on the board for awhile. I like the atmospheric perspective of this, and achieved most of the color goals I had from my reference photo, but will still await more thinking on this one. These canyon painting require a bit more THINKING than others! If I concur about what needs to be changed, I will attack a full sheet with this painting scheme.

Be aware, be very aware!

Susan, I love it. You have captured the 'feeling' very well. Especially love the sky and distant mountains. Well done.

Susan, This is just beautiful. Since I live in the desert (Las Vegas) I would like to try to paint more canyonds and mountain paintings. I love your comments about thinking. This reminds me to think more and plan more. Norena

Thanks Ladies! Connie, thanks for pointing out the distant mountains, another of my painting goals is to pay more attention to atmospheric perspective to give landscapes more depth. Most of what I paint in landscapes are wide open spaces with lots of depth, so I try to show that.

Norena - Get yourself over to Valley of Fire north of you there in Las Vegas. That should give you lots of practice painting canyons and mountains. I love that area, especially the colors.

I think that after considering this one for a bit that I will work on those slabs of volcanic rock in the foreground. They weren't separate rocks and boulders, but were huge slabs of dark rock. I think I missed showing that so will rework them and hope they turn into separate rocks. Like we agreed, takes some thinking to get it all figured out!

I was missing you on WCW so I came here to see what you were up to. Oh my oh my you can paint those red rocks and canyons like nobody else. And the atmosphere in this one is to die for. SueD
