Apple Basket
This is one of the monthly projects for the online Watercolor Workshop group. We were to all paint from the same lovely reference photo provided and I almost chickened out on participating after seeing the first paintings submitted, they were so good! But, I also feel there is room for every approach in these projects and here is mine. I was going for a looser approach than I usually do and trying to pay more attention to the shapes within the shadows, value shifts and reproducing those luscious apple colors. It turned out to be a very enjoyable painting to do, despite dreading that basket!

It is just great! I love the way you have the basket and background in a sepia sort of colour, contrasting with the vibrancy of the apples in glorious full technicolor.
I joined WcW group when you posted about your onions - and it looks great - looking forward to things settling down here after the exhbition and being able to join in.
Thank you Kari, and welcome to the WcW group. I peeked at your blog and a only a few of your paintings and I see that you will be a great addition to the talent we have in this online group. I so appreciate your comments on my recent work. I am trying to stretch my skills and grow and it is so nice to have you pick up on and be encouraging about specifics for those things I am focusing on improving.
Good luck on your Open Studio show and I will look forward to see your work over at the WcW when you can submit.

This is wonderful. From a very difficult reference photo you have been able to simplfy and make the apples the star of the show. You light and shadows are terrific too. Wow.
Susan, your take on this is wonderful - the sepia for everything but the apples which really really really make them shine! I admire what you did with this (esp when I know how easy it was to ruin :( boo hoo
A beautiful painting Susan...feels most joyful! :)
Thanks Vicki and Rhonda! I like this one rather a lot myself. And, Margaret Ann, it was good to hear from you again. I hope to see you soon at the Art Club!
